This is a book that, while simplistic in its method, embodies a direct approach to doling out advice to those who are on the outside looking in, namely young entrepreneurs who would give anything to be in the position of Seymour.

Seymour Schulich is a Canadian billionaire, who pioneered the concept of royalty payments in the mining industry.  Along with his partner Pierre Lassonde, he established the Franco-Nevada and Euro-Nevada companies which never found any precious metals, but the royalty agreements allowed them to gain ownership in some of the most profitable mines in the world.

Chapters in this book are short and to the point.  The principles that he pontificates upon are simple, but true nonetheless:

Seymour relates that he has actually made more from investments in the oil industry to date than the mining pursuits.  His prowess as an investor has also led him to become an astute philanthropist, mostly to institutions of higher learning such as McGill University in Canada.

This book is full of very simple but thought-provoking insights.

About the Author:

A Canadian billionaire whose career resume includes stock brokerage, mining, oil industry, and investment counseling, Seymour Schulich is a giant in his field.  His greatest contribution to society at large, however, is his generosity towards universities which exceeds $200 million.  His endowments include libraries, medical centers, and music and lecture halls.  There are over 650 scholarships awarded in his name.

His own degrees are held in Chemistry, MBA, and a Chartered Financial Analyst.  He was conferred with Canada's highest civilian award, the Order of Canada.
